How to Plan the Ultimate Spring Break Staycation
So Spring Break season has officially arrived and you’re dying to head out of town, but schedule or budget constraints have you stuck at home. No problem! You can still enjoy an amazing staycation by adding some of these local Cincinnati gems to your Spring Break itinerary.
1. City Sightseeing
If you want to get better acquainted with the scenery, history and (best of all) food of the Queen City, try one of the many local sightseeing adventures that Cincy has to offer. You can cruise down the Ohio River to the sounds of a live jazz band on a BB Riverboats Dixieland Jazz Brunch, or explore Greater Cincinnati from an entirely different perspective by enjoying a part-land, part-water tour with Newport’s Ride the Ducks.
If you’d rather take a bird’s-eye-view approach to your sightseeing excursion, you can take a hot air balloon tour of Cincinnati via Bella Balloons. You can also immerse yourself in the city’s local culinary delights by taking a guided food tour of Findlay Market or Over-the-Rhine via Cincinnati Food Tours.
2. The Arts
Cincinnati has plenty to offer for art lovers of all stripes, with world-class museums that span both traditional and contemporary forms of art. The Cincinnati Art Museum located in historic Eden Park boasts a treasure trove of over 65,000 works of art spanning over 6,000 years – and it’s free! If you prefer art with a more modern or edgy flair, check out the Contemporary Arts Center, which is housed in downtown Cincinnati’s iconic Lois & Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Arts.
3. Thrill Seeking
Cincinnati offers plenty of great options for the adrenaline junkie. You can careen over some 4,000 feet of track in the stomach-churning Banshee roller coaster at Kings Island (open April 16) or if you’d rather keep your blood pressure intact, you can try more traditional rides and water slides at Coney Island (open May 28).
For a different type of adrenaline rush, try Houdini’s Room Escape, the premier Cincinnati escape room experience. In this exhilarating race-against-time adventure game, participants are locked in a themed room and challenged to solve puzzles, decipher riddles and discover clues in the room that will lead them to freedom. You and your family or friends will have to do your best Sherlock Holmes imitation to find the key that can unlock the door before time runs out.
4. For Nature Lovers
The Greater Cincinnati area offers plenty of natural beauty for nature lovers to explore. You can start with a trip to the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, or enjoy an immersive farm experience at Evandale’s 122-acre Gorman Heritage Farm.
If you’re looking for an active nature adventure, the Cincinnati Nature Center offers outstanding hiking trails and forests at Rowe Woods in Milford, or Long Branch Farm & Trails in Goshen. For a nature adventure that will get your heart pumping, you can traverse the more than 70 miles of pavement at the Loveland Bike Trail in Little Miami Scenic State Park.
As you can see, you don’t have to drive or fly out of state just to have an awesome Spring Break excursion. Keep the above ideas in mind to help you plan the ultimate staycation!
