4 Rainy Day Activities You Haven’t Thought of Yet

So it’s raining cats and dogs outside and the whole family is stuck inside the house with nothing to do. Don’t despair–you don’t have to spend your day fighting off boredom! Just keep the following four rainy day activities in mind to have some creative family fun and make the most out of your time while the dreary weather lasts.

  1. Create an Epic Indoor Scavenger Hunt

There’s hardly a person alive who doesn’t enjoy the thrill of hunting for hidden treasure. Why not create an epic indoor scavenger hunt that the whole family can enjoy? You may have to make a quick run to the store to get some prizes and goodies (e.g., candy, small toys, etc.), but once you’ve got your “loot” in-house, you can start developing the details of the treasure hunt.

You can give each player a set of numbered clues (e.g., 1/8 or “one of eight”, etc.) in small envelopes to guide them through the different steps that will lead them to the ultimate treasure stash. Make the clues rhyme just to add a little extra flair, and if you want to get really fancy with it, have at least one clue station where they will have to listen to a pre-recorded message (authored by you, of course) to receive their next step. The sense of mystery, anticipation and adventure that comes with an indoor scavenger hunt will provide plenty of fun to pass the time.

  1. Go On an Indoor Laser Tag Adventure

No matter how old you are, laser tag is just flat-out fun. Chances are, you can find some type of indoor laser tag facility near where you live. If you need a little help narrowing down your search, try using this online directory. Yeah, you may have to endure a wet-weather commute, but by the time you’re zapping one of your family members in the laser tag arena, you’ll forget all about what it took to get there.

  1. Try an Escape Room Experience

Escape rooms are the ultimate thrill-seeking experience. We’re talking about a real-life adventure game that requires you and your family to use all of your collective wits, skills, smarts, and teamwork in order to escape a locked room within a 60-minute time frame.

Houdini’s Room Escape, the premier Cincinnati escape room facility, will provide your family with plenty of exhilarating, heart-pounding fun as you attempt to escape any one of their three different themed rooms. If you do it right, you’ll be able to use clues and objects in the room as your guide to hopefully find the key that will open the locked door before time runs out. An escape room will provide your family with a fun and exciting challenge that will completely eradicate the rainy day blues.

  1. Engage in a Creative Baking Session

You never know what culinary feats your family is capable of until you let them loose in the kitchen. Why not have a creative baking session, where the entire family selects a handful of cool treats to bake together? You can look up some of those exotic dessert recipes that are floating all over Pinterest, or choose a somewhat unfamiliar (but more than likely very tasty) recipe from Food Network’s vast database of dessert goodies. Designate roles for each family member to complete, and watch how your efforts combine to pull off an insanely delicious dessert!

Rainy weather doesn’t always mean that you’re doomed to struggle through countless hours of boredom. Keep the above ideas in mind to create plenty of family fun and good times on those wet weather days.
