Augmented Reality + GPS Games = FUN
More than likely you’ve heard of the term “virtual reality” before, but its close cousin–a technology known as “augmented reality”–is becoming more commonplace. New uses for augmented reality are being developed on a regular basis, not the least of which are games that blend physical and digital worlds together. Houdini’s Room Escape has recently entered the world of augmented reality by working with an app developer to create augmented reality, GPS-enabled outdoor adventures just as exhilarating and addictive as our standard escape room challenges.
Similar to popular existing GPS games such as geo-caching, Houdini’s Room Escape’s GPS Adventures allow you to go on an outdoor excursion, solving riddles and puzzles at each stop along the way.
So How Do the Games Work?
Using an Adventure Pack (which includes an iPad, supplied by Houdini’s) you will solve a series of puzzles and riddles that will reveal a set of GPS locations leading you on a thrilling adventure through historic downtown Montgomery.
If you’ve ever seen the movie “National Treasure,” you have a good idea of what you’re in for when you accept this challenge; just as Nicolas Cage’s character had to search far and wide to discover clues and solve riddles in order to discover his next steps, new clues will only be revealed in the game as you progress along the route provided.
The game moves at your own pace, so you can take your time and enjoy each step of the journey or race to beat your friend’s fastest time. There are several versions of the games available for different ages and skill levels, providing a fun and healthy challenge for everyone; from families with small children to hard-core puzzle fanatics.
Houdini’s Room Escape is offering these augmented reality GPS Adventures as long as the weather allows, so it’s a great way to get outdoors while having fun with family and friends. The GPS Adventure typically takes groups between 45 minutes to 90 minutes to complete. It’s different from the escape rooms because you complete at your own pace.
